Privacy
The MeshFest app doesn't collect your data. There are no accounts, no servers and no analytics, and the app doesn't connect to the internet.
Your messages are end-to-end encrypted. Only people in your group can read them. Anyone with your group's QR code can join and read its messages, so only share it with people you want in the group.
To reach friends farther away, nearby phones running MeshFest may pass your encrypted messages along. They can't read your messages or see your name. They can see some routing information, like a random ID for your phone, message IDs and timing. That could let someone nearby recognize your phone when it's around, or guess which phones are in the same group. A future update will reduce this.
- Bluetooth — to send and pass along messages, even while your phone is in your pocket.
- Local Network — for faster connections to nearby phones while the app is open.
- Notifications — to tell you about new messages. They say only which group has a new message, unless you turn on "Show message previews" in the app's Profile.
- Camera — only to scan group QR codes. Images aren't stored or sent.
MeshFest keeps your messages, groups and display name on your phone, not on a server. Group keys stay in the iOS Keychain on this phone and are never synced. Messages are left out of iCloud and computer backups; your group list and display name are included.
Deleting the app removes your messages and settings. iOS may keep your group keys until you next install and open MeshFest, which clears them.
meshfest.app has no analytics, ads or tracking, and loads nothing from other sites. If you sign up for early access, your email address is stored by our web host, Netlify. Beta sign-ups go through a Google Form, so Google stores what you enter there. We use these only to contact you about MeshFest and never sell or share them.
If you test MeshFest through Apple's TestFlight, Apple shares with us the name and email address you were invited with, and any feedback and crash reports from the beta. We use them only to improve MeshFest.
Questions, or to have your sign-up removed: support@meshfest.app. If anything here changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
